PaxVelo Meeting Minutes

1.Purpose: Curtis Cook called the Pax Velo general meeting to recap 07 events, highlight what’s new for ‘08, and discuss ‘08 events.
2.Attendees: Thirty one total. Complete list of attendees provided upon request.
3.Discussion:
a. Recap ’07:
(1) PV Spring Criterium no longer will be held in Leonardtown.
(2) Amish 100 very successful (260 riders). Job well done/applause for Jerry Phelps.
(3) Simon Richardson TNR very popular. Slightly new venue for ’08.
(4) Treasury balance as of 29 Jan was $8700.
(5) Start thinking about ’09 officers/board members. Jack Pripich (treasurer) and possibly others stepping down at year’s end.
b. What’s new for ’08:
(1) Simon Richardson proposed starting TNR 1 Apr and cutting back/relaxing August TNR due to usually hot/humid weather conditions. Curtis proposed using three TNRs starting 11 Mar as warm-up before TNR series begins.
Unanimous yes vote. Jerry Phelps suggested groups determined
alphabetically to integrate different skill levels for warm-ups. Some discussion on how to get more people out for Thursday night rides.
Curtis proposed increasing prizes.
(2) Jerseys in and were distributed. Some jackets still on order.
(3) USAC membership renewed ($150). League of American Bicyclists (LAB) insurance also renewed. LAB considers all rides covered assuming rider has signed waiver. Curtis proposed a sticker scheme to identify members. Possibly on fork of bicycle. Some discussion on what is considered an “official club” ride. Appears to be method/content of announcement.
(4) PV Base access for those who need it appears to be good for both Tuesday and Thursday nights. Check with Dave Gleisner.
(5) Mike Prevost indicated potential members voted to form an independent Southern MD Triathlon Club. This weekend underwater video taping. Possibly plan local triathlon. Organizational meeting 13 Feb 7PM at Nicolletti’s.
c. PV Events 2008:
(1) SOMD Crit May 18 at CSM LaPlata campus. Very tough/ technically
challenging course. Eleven turns in one mile. Looped riders pulled for safety reasons. Jerry Phelps co-promoter but away that weekend. Needs someone onsite day of race. Meeting next Monday with CSM. Special Olympics acceptable charity. Mark Byers investigate getting MABRA higher (double event) rating for course. Joe Jefferson announcer.
(2) Amish 100 Saturday 20 Sep. Start Chopticon HS. Course needs remarked. Jodie Smith (Chopticon teacher) will check with facilities director.
(3) Livestrong challenge 24 Aug at Philadelphia Community College. Ride
with Lance Armstrong et al. Contact Curtis if interested.
(4) PV Tri-party. Dave Kelnberger to reserve pool for 15 July.
(5) Mark Byers indicated volunteers (water stops, traffic control, etc.) needed for 9th Mar Lower Potomac River Marathon. Contact CBRC Liza Recto.
(6) PV Racers. Curtis indicated if anyone interested in a racing team the club would financially support. Tradezone races starting 17 Feb (check
www.MABRA.org).
